The Department of Sustainable Development and Natural Resources is implementing community development actions aimed at improving the mineral supply chain, ensuring access to drinking water, strengthening women's power and encouraging sustainable agriculture.
OUR PROJECTS
MISERATION PROJECT
Project Title 1: « Assisting cooperatives and local communities in the research and implementation of appropriate measures for a responsible supply chain for cobalt in the provinces of Haut-Katanga and Lualaba, with a view to promoting a responsible energy transition in these two provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo ».
Objective 1 : At the end of this project more or less five areas of observation, promotion of good CSR practices, rating of companies and mining cooperatives are set up by local communities for the reduction of social conflicts in the targeted mining sites.
Goal 2 : After three years, two existing CMDS and KOMIAKOL mining cooperatives in Kolwezi (Kapata and Mutoshi) and three others in the process of being established in Lwisha, Fungurume and Lubumbashi, become autonomous, in accordance with the principles of foundation, structuring, operation and administration as defined by the OHADA legislation and the mining code of the R.D. ALBOAN/DONOSTI PROJECT
Project title 2 : From vegetable garden to market: water for sustainable agriculture ». This project was carried out with the support of BILBAO and ALBOAN.
The project involved the construction of water source captures for the Lwisha belt populations with reference to the human right to water; this basic necessities in the promotion of life.
The project was designed to meet the need expressed by the peasant families of Haut-Katanga to have alternative and sustainable livelihoods through access to water to improve the yield of their horticultural production and ensure the autonomy of women farmers. At the same time, a management committee was set up for each capture site to ensure the efficient functioning, sustainability and maintenance of the infrastructure.
PURPOSE PROJECT
General objective To promote the protection of the human right to water to enable women farmers in Haut-Katanga, DR Congo, to access sustainable livelihoods.
Specific objective To improve access to safe drinking water by strengthening the productive capacity, autonomy and leadership of women farmers.







CARLETON PROJECT
Title of Project 3: Yellow copper to green copper: « Empowerment of vulnerable families in the city of Lwisha, Kipushi municipality, Upper Katanga province ». This project involved supporting vulnerable women in association for vegetable production in Lwisha.
Based on direct exchanges and interviews with delegates from local communities, the project was initially conceived as a response to the need for the empowerment of families and populations surrounding and directly affected by mining activities.
A project with a societal and inclusive vision, it was already based from its very first moments on three main axes:
- Income improvement The project focused on building the capacity of local communities to produce and market profitable horticultural crops, raising broiler chickens as a socially, ecologically and economically viable activity; following a cooperative approach based on work.
The observation is very positive as we have passed the various phases of this project: the foundations laid in the framework of this project for the fight against food insecurity are being developed. In contrast to past eating habits that were mainly based on imports, the population of Lwisha eats organically and in a diversified manner, depending on seasonal alternations.
- Improving the production chain, marketing and economic power of familiesthe promotion of the maximization of collective activities within the target groups and the creation of networks for rural women.
- Capacity-building and promotion of human rights through training on gender equality, stressing the role of women in promoting household financial autonomy
PURPOSE PROJECT
Overall objective : Contribute to the economic empowerment of vulnerable families; especially the families of women leaving the artisanal mines in Lwisha.
Specific objective : contribute to the improvement of the incomes of about one hundred families in four farmers' associations through capacity building for production, marketing and promotion of equity in the city of Lwisha.
