ALERTSMINES

The Digital Mechanism « Alerts » is an IT infrastructure developed to monitor human rights violations and promote good corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices in artisanal and industrial mining sites. The mechanism aims to:

  • Identify and document problems (social, environmental, economic, security, etc.) created by companies operating in the mining areas surrounding local communities;
  • To report on situations of insecurity, human rights violations, or other problems related to the mining sector;
  • Contribute to a better understanding and management of mineral resources in the region.

Currently, the project is operational at four major mining sites, subdivided into several subsites:

  1. Lubumbashi (including Luano, Kawama, Somika, Kalukuluku, etc.);
  2. Lwisha (including Kansonga, Mbola, Kanshinshi, etc.);
  3. Fungurume (including Kisanfu, Kisankala, Kawama, Mitoni Mbiri, etc.);
  4. Kolwezi (including Manika, Dilala, Mutoshi and Kapata).

AlertsMines plays a crucial role in enhancing the voice of affected populations.
