ALERTSMINES

The Digital Mechanism «Alerts» is an IT infrastructure developed to monitor human rights violations and promote good corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices in artisanal and industrial mining sites. The mechanism aims to:

  • Identify and document problems (social, environmental, economic, security, etc.) created by companies operating in the mining areas surrounding local communities;
  • To report on situations of insecurity, human rights violations, or other problems related to the mining sector;
  • Contribute to a better understanding and management of mineral resources in the region.

Currently, the project is operational at four major mining sites, subdivided into several subsites:

  1. Lubumbashi (including Luano, Kawama, Somika, Kalukuluku, etc.);
  2. Lwisha (including Kansonga, Mbola, Kanshinshi, etc.);
  3. Fungurume (including Kisanfu, Kisankala, Kawama, Mitoni Mbiri, etc.);
  4. Kolwezi (including Manika, Dilala, Mutoshi and Kapata).

AlertsMinesplays a crucial role in enhancing the voice of affected populations.
