Presentation of CARF
The Centre Arrupe pour la Recherche et la Formation (CARF) is a committed, dynamic and innovative institution, playing a fundamental role in promoting the development of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its vision, values and multidisciplinary approach make it a key player in building a better future for the country.
This Apostolic Work of the Fathers Jesuits of Central Africa is a non-profit association founded in 2013. CARF was initially focused on the human, economic, and environmental development of Katanga, focusing on the good governance of natural resources, particularly minerals.
Born from the will of the Fathers of the Society of Jesus (Jesuites) of Central Africa, CARF embodies the legacy of a deep tradition of social and intellectual commitment. It is part of the vision of the Apostolic Project of the Jesuits in Central Africa, which focuses on promoting a Christian perspective on development – paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and marginalized communities and populations.
CARF operates throughout the territory of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, particularly in the provinces of Haut-Katanga and Lualaba, while having the capacity to expand in Africa and internationally through its partnerships. It also has an African and global capacity to expand through its partnerships in the networks of the Society of Jesus, and beyond.
Its mission is structured into four strategic axes in harmony with the Universal Apostolic Preferences (PAU) of the Society of Jesus.
