The Centre Arrupe pour la Recherche et la Formation (CARF)'s RD Congo News Observatory is an expression platform accessible to academics, civil society actors, public decision-makers, young researchers and the general population. Its mission is to analyse the socio-economic, political and environmental issues of DR Congo, providing insights into local events and their impact on Congolese communities.
For thirty years, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has faced chronic security instability, particularly in its eastern region, characterized by the proliferation of armed groups, community conflicts, regional interference and fragile security governance. Despite the signing of several peace agreements, both at the national and regional levels (including the Sun City Agreements, the Addis Ababa Framework Agreement, as well as the Nairobi and Luanda processes), the persistence of violence raises questions about the effectiveness, implementation and sustainability of these peace mechanisms.
In a changing regional geopolitical context, at the dawn of new political, security and diplomatic challenges for the period 2024-2025, it seems imperative to revisit these Peace Agreements, to analyse their foundations, the dynamics of application and their structural limits. This brainstorming session is thus part of the mission of the current Observatory, which aims to produce a critical, scientific and prospective analysis of the security phenomena affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This scientific banquet is intended as a framework for in-depth intellectual exchanges between researchers, analysts, policy makers, civil society actors and students, in order to fuel strategic thinking and inform public policies on peace and security.
