From 28 to 30 May 2025, the Centre Arrupe pour la Recherche et la Formation (CARF) organised
training for senior mining cooperatives in Haut-Katanga and
Lualaba, as part of the project « Support to cooperatives and local communities for the
development of a supply chain and responsible marketing
cobalt in Upper Katanga and Lualaba »financed by MISEREOR.
The main objective of this session was to guide mining cooperatives towards a transition
provide the tools and skills needed by managers to move forward
a traditional model to more structured cooperative societies, meeting standards
modern governance and management.
Through the training provided by CARF staff: Adrien Lenge, Project Manager,
accompanied by Lucien Kawel, Chief Librarian and IT and Elie Bokele, Senior Assistant,
the participants have acquired essential skills not only in
professionalization and migration of their cooperatives in accordance with the new requirements
regulations for the mining sector. In addition to these skills, participants were
also equipped in Transformational Leadership to enable them to conduct their own
cooperatives.

The organization of this training is part of a comprehensive approach to improving the

By offering this support to local cooperatives, including Lwisha, Fungurume,
Kolwezi, Kasonga, and Lubumbashi, CARF strengthens its commitment to development
and the ethical management of mineral resources. This investment in

and the establishment of a fair and responsible cobalt supply chain
and more transparent.
This workshop marks a significant step forward and paves the way for mining cooperatives
better organized, more competitive and more resilient to the challenges of the sector. A decisive step
to artisanal mining in line with the requirements of the world market, but
above all, beneficial for local communities.
