Gender mainstreaming in CARF activities: towards a clear and inclusive gender policy

From 26 to 28 May 2025, the Centre Arrupe pour la Recherche et la Formation (CARF) organised
a session of analysis and validation of the report of the institutional diagnosis and training
internal gender officers in the capacity building project
It is intended for all its staff. This initiative is part of a
the CARF has a clear, coherent and aligned gender policy
missions and values.
Led by consultant Sylvie Nkolomoni and her team, facilitated by Madame
Noëlla ITUMU, Head of Gender Department at CARF, and Mr Adrien LENGE
Project Manager. The training session allowed officers to acquire new
skills on basic concepts related to gender, while laying the foundation for a
process of analysis, collective reflection not only for the development of gender policy
the institutional level, but also and above all for the internalisation of gender culture in the
daily practices of each CARF agent.
The session was structured around three key themes:

  1. Understanding the gender approach and institutional diagnosis: the exchanges made it possible to identify
    both internal forces and obstacles (visibility, communication, mobilization of
    and to take a critical look at
    existing practices.
  2. Effects of stereotypes in the workplace: an intervention by expert Kalunga
    the impact of gender bias on men and women, calling for
    institutional strategies for prevention, equity and cultural transformation.
  3. Participatory co-construction of a gender action plan: participants formulated
    concrete proposals to develop an institutional gender policy:
    strengthening the thematic group, integration of reporting mechanisms,
    VBG training, adoption of a genrée ethical charter, internal adjustments
    adapted, etc.
    Through this training session, CARF marks a structuring step in its approach
    inclusion and social justice, committed to a more equitable organization,
    More aware of gender relations and in line with contemporary realities in the world of work.
