Access to drinking water for rural communities in Kasongo chiefdom, Haut-Katanga province: CARF officially hands over a port of call to DAVID village

June 16, 2025, as part of its commitment to community development
The Centre Arrupe pour la Recherche et la Formation (CARF) carried out the
official delivery of a pillar in the village of DAVID, located in the chiefdom of Kasongo,
territory of Kipushi, about 45 km from Lubumbashi, on the road to Kasomeno.
This action is part of the « Access to drinking water project », implemented with the
support from the Federación Navarra de Municipios y Concejos (FNMC) and the NGO
ALBOAN. This partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to ensuring access to a vital resource,
often insufficient in rural areas of the DRC.
The ceremony took place in the presence of the political, administrative and customary authorities,
representatives of CARF, as well as direct beneficiaries. After the words of circumstance
of the Grand Chief, the Territory Administrator, and Father Michael Bushiri, S.J., Director
General of CARF ad interim, the customary blessing preceded the cutting of the ribbon, moment
highly symbolic delivery of the work.

The handover of the management keys was made in chain: from CARF to AT, from AT to Grand Chief,
then to the village chief, to the elected community managers. This gesture affirms the will
accountability and participatory infrastructure management.
On behalf of CARF, Mr. Adrien Lenge, Project Manager, explained the technical details on the
long-term day-to-day management of the boundary, with emphasis on the sustainability of
the installation, community mobilization and the need for rigorous maintenance. He insisted
on the importance for beneficiaries to take ownership of management, with a view to
sustainability of this work.
This pillar is not an end in itself: it is a lever of social transformation, a
symbol of environmental justice, and a tool to promote human dignity. CARF,
through this project, reaffirms its vocation to support communities in building
a deep-rooted, inclusive and inclusive development.
