The CARF in Tokyo: Two lectures by Father Toussaint Kafarhire at Sophia University

The Centre Arrupe pour la Recherche et la Formation (CARF) is pleased to announce the participation of its Director General, Father Toussaint Kafarhire, S.J. , also President of the Association of African Studies in Africa (ASAA), in two major conferences at Sophia University in Tokyo, on 8 and 9 July 2026.

Wednesday 8 July: Father Toussaint will speak on the theme: « Rethinking the Postcolony : African Studies and the Future of International Relations ». It will explore how African knowledge and experience offer alternatives to inherited development models, to rethink justice and sustainability on a global scale.

Thursday, 9 July: He will address a hot news topic: « Critical Minerals and Global Externalities : Will the Superpowers ».
While the DRC is at the heart of the energy transition, it will question social and environmental externalities of competition for critical minerals, and call for a more ethical supply chain.

These two conferences, organized in partnership with Sophia University's Institute for Asian, African and Middle Eastern Studies, offer a unique platform to hear an African voice engaged on major geopolitical and human issues.
